Alexander (Alex) Macaulay beloved husband of Terri Macaulay (nee Bosch) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the age of 79 years.
Alex was born in Vancouver, B.C. on July 12, 1942. He attended high school at Vancouver College, where he was a basketball and football star. After graduation, he joined the Congregation of Christian Brothers and received his Education Degree from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. Alex began his teaching career in Newfoundland before returning to Vancouver to teach at St. Thomas More High School. Alex came to Calgary in 1967 where he met the love of his life Terri. He taught in the Calgary Catholic School District for 30 years, serving as Principal in his final years. Alex's first priority was always his staff and students. He will be remembered as a caring and committed teacher and administrator.
Alex married Terri in 1968 and remained a devoted husband for 52 years and was an amazing father to Kyla and Colin. Alex loved sports, both playing and watching. He would often come home with bruises from an intense squash match. He cheered for Notre Dame and enjoyed watching the Fighting Irish play. Alex took great pleasure in family vacations, his most memorable being their trip to Africa. Closer to home, he enjoyed visiting the Macaulay Clan in Vancouver, his extended Bosch family in Saskatchewan, countless camping excursions and roughing it in Finley Creek. Diagnosed at the age of 50, Alex battled Parkinson's for 30 years with strength and dignity. Alex will be remembered for his kind heart and generous spirit.
Besides his loving wife Terri, Alex is survived by his daughter Kyla Frank and son-in-law Les, his son Colin (Amanda), and his three grandchildren, Callista, Jacob and Oliver. Alex is also survived by his three brothers, Don (former wife Anne), Fr. Neil and Angus (Vicki); two sisters, Mary (Stan) and Pat; his great-aunt Flora Elsworth, as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Alex was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Katie Macaulay; and his nephew Bruce Macaulay.
